Winter vs. Summer vs. All-Season Tires in Oklahoma City, OK

Knowing what kind of tires to use for your given adventures can make all the difference. For that reason, our Service Department team members put this overview together outlining winter, summer, and all-season tires! Read on, then drop by David Stanley Mitsubishi.

Winter

Whether or not you take frequent road trips in the winter, you'll likely know how treacherous snowy streets can be. It becomes significantly easier for a vehicle to slip and slide on icy terrain, so consider equipping your Mitsubishi with winter tires. Unlike normal components, these have deeper treads and come with additional sipes, which make it more difficult for them to become clogged with slush and snow. Moreover, they are made of a more flexible material that won’t become too rigid when temperatures drop below 45 degrees in Oklahoma City. However, they will not perform well when the weather is hot, so don’t use them outside of the winter months.

Summer

If you are looking forward to driving along open roads like I-44 in the summer, then it’s a good idea to get a set of tires that matches the season. A more rigid design allows summer tires to remain firmly planted on the pavement even when it is extremely hot outside. These components are also called performance tires, because they optimize traction and efficiency on wet and dry streets alike. Since they have a smoother surface and wider shape than most other tires, you will not want to use them when there is any chance for frost or snow, as this can be dangerous. If you want to get a set of summer tires, reach out to our Parts Department!

All-Season

Most modern vehicles, including Mitsubishi cars, utilize standard all-season tires. This is because they perform well in a wide variety of climates and weather conditions. While they don't offer any specialized capabilities like the aforementioned tire types, all-season components won’t need to be swapped out after several months have passed. You can keep them equipped year-round, meaning fewer trips to the service bay. We still recommend that you get a tire rotation every 5,000 to 7,500 miles and have our technicians inspect them for damage throughout the year. As much of a nervous wreck that I was, the salesman Neil put a lot of my worries to rest, and made my whole car buying experience a lot easier than I expected. He answered every single question I had quickly, but made sure that I fully understood the answers before we moved on. I really appreciate all of his patience with me.
